BRIEF: President Trump denies disaster aid for NEPA
Times-Tribune (Scranton, PA)
May 11--HARRISBURG -- President Donald Trump denied the state's request for federal disaster aid for the record-breaking snowstorm that paralyzed Northeast Pennsylvania in March, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Thursday.
The governor made the request earlier this month for aid to local, county and state governments, plus eligible nonprofits in nine counties, including Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wyoming and Wayne counties. He cited costs that exceeded local snow-removal budgets and other extenuating circumstances.
In the initial tally, nine eligible counties fell $6.6 million short of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's threshold to unlock disaster aid.
