May 01--PITTSFIELD -- The Pike County Color Drive has been canceled for 2018, with organizers citing financial woes.
According to an announcement on the event's website, after several visitors drank tainted cider, the event was tied up with lawsuits and insurance issues.
"As a committee, we researched and talked with more (than) one local insurance agent to see what was available and what said insurance would cost," the group said. "Each agent stated to fully insure the Color Drive, that the Color Drive itself had to have an event liability policy, each location had to have its own event liability policy, and each vendor had to purchase their own liability policy covering the two-day event."
Vendors would have to pay between $300 and $500 for their policy, which caused many locations to drop out of the event entirely. There is not yet any word as to whether or not the event will return in the future.
The Pike County Color Drive is an annual event that showcases local vendors and locations of interest around Pike County.
