BRIEF: Man, woman die in house fire that begins on stove

March 04--Investigators have determined that a house fire which resulted in the deaths of a man and his wife Friday night was accidental.

According to a report from the office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, the fire in Appling, Ga., originated on a stove in the kitchen.

"The fire was the result of unattended cooking," Hudgens said.

Killed were in the blaze, which began on Cottonwood Drive at 6:45 p.m., were Robert Malone and Mavis Malone.

His body was found in the kitchen and her body was found in a bedroom.

In 2018, 21 Georgians have died in residential fires.
