BRIEF: Fire destroys part of Entiat home; no one hurt
Wenatchee World, The (WA)
Oct. 24--ENTIAT -- A two-alarm fire destroyed part of a home Monday night, but no one was injured.
Firefighters were called out shortly after 9 p.m. to the single-story house at 14906 Burkey St.
Chelan County Fire District 8 Chief Mike Asher said the family of four had gone to sleep, but the sons smelled smoke and discovered the blaze near the furnace. The kitchen and living rooms sustained damage, and the fire also spread to the attic.
Firefighters took out the ceiling and some of the roof, Asher said. They left the scene about midnight.
Asher said the sons reported that the smoke alarms went off about two minutes after they smelled smoke, which he said highlights the importance of having smoke detectors. The family has insurance and a place to stay, he said.
Chelan County Fire District 1 and Chelan Fire and Rescue assisted. Asher said investigators aren't certain how the fire started.
