BRIEF: FEMA deletes 133 Pendleton properties from flood maps

Sept. 16--The Federal Emergency Management Agency deleted 133 parcels of land in Pendleton from its newest flood hazard maps, but Town Attorney Claude A. Joerg said that doesn't necessarily mean the owners of those properties no longer need to purchase flood insurance.

The new FEMA maps adoptedby the Town Board removed the parcels, mostly located either on Tonawanda Creek Road or in side areas such as the Pendale Subdivision, because of revised information.

But Joerg said those property owners still might have to purchase flood insurance, depending on the requirements of their banks or other mortgage holders.

The town expects to set up a public information meeting sometime in October to explain the impact of the new flood maps, Joerg said.
