July 26--A former para-professional has been charged with a drug offense.
The state charged Colby Smith, 27, with the felony of delivery of a controlled substance. According to a probable cause statement, Smith allegedly sold an ounce of marijuana for $325 to a confidential informant April 13.
According to St. Joseph School District internet records, Smith was listed as an educator at Lafayette High School at that time. He's no longer employed with the St. Joseph School District, said Joey Austin, a spokeswoman for the district. She confirmed Smith's status during the last school year involved working as a para-professional.
Smith got out of jail in June when Mary Beth Schenecker Bail Bonds posted a $15,000 surety bond.
The defendant will be arraigned Monday, Aug. 15, before Circuit Judge Patrick Robb.
