BRIEF: Deadline to sign up for health insurance looms
Victoria Advocate (TX)
Jan. 26--The deadline to sign up for health insurance coverage on HealthCare.gov is fast approaching.
Citizens Medical Center is offering a free event Saturday to help residents through the enrollment process.
Marketing Director Jennifer Schulte said the community is invited to come and learn about the coverage options available on the Healthcare Exchange.
The last day to sign up for insurance through the Exchange is Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Jeanette Flores, insurance exchange manager at Citizens Medical Center, urges people to enroll in health coverage before the deadline.
Despite news of an impending repeal of the Affordable Care Act under a new presidency, enrollment has been going forward as usual.
"To date, nothing definitive has changed, and we are still enrolling people in health coverage," she said.
Flores said those who sign up for coverage will also benefit from not having to pay penalties for not having insurance in the 2017 plan year should those requirements stay in place.
"The benefit of signing up for coverage is that you know you are insured should you need medical care," she said.
