Bridge on Whitmers Healthcare Attack: ‘We Rate The Claim Misleading’

Targeted News Service

LANSING, Michigan, Oct. 8 -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican running for Michigan Governor, issued the following campaign news:

- "To the contrary, Schuette has consistently said, since at least 2014, that even though he opposes the ACA, he supports keeping protections for pre-existing conditions."

- "From the moment we talked about the failures and fallacies of the Affordable Care Act, I said very clearly from Day One that you have to cover pre-existing conditions," Schuette told Bridge and the Detroit Journalism Cooperative last week. They're using scare tactics," he said of Whitmer's campaign."

- "Whitmer cannot support the conclusion that Schuette "thinks insurance companies should be allowed to deny coverage to people with preexisting conditions."

- "We rate the claim misleading."

Don't just take Bridge's word for it. Bill has publicly supported protecting insurance coverage for pre-existing conditions during his entire team as attorney general:

The truth: Bill Schuette is on the record since 2012 supporting the protection of pre-existing condition coverage in any healthcare reform:

2018 -> "replace it while keeping its protections for people with pre-existing conditions"

(Associated Press, 9/12/18, http://www.wkar.org/ post/ap-interview-schuette- says-medicaid-law-not-going- anywhere#stream/0)

2018 -> "I want to make sure you have coverage for pre-existing conditions"

(Holland Sentinel, 8/28/18, https://www. hollands entinel.com/article/ 20180828/ NEWS/180829103)

2015 -> "Insure pre-existing conditions: No individuals should have his insurance canceled because of a pre-existing condition."

(Bill Schuette, Washington Times, 3/3/15, https://www. washingto ntimes.com/news/2015/ mar/3/ bill-schuette-a- prescription-for-health-care- after/)

2014 -> "I support coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions"

(Lansing State Journal, 9/27/14,https://www. lansingstatejournal.com/story/ opinion/contributors/outlook/ 2014/09/26/bill-schuette- issues/16293007/)

2012 -> "(Schuette) said he supports some provisions in the law...protecting people with pre-existing medical conditions."
