PR Newswire

HOUSTON, Jan. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Beret Life Sciences LLC (BBLS), the investment and management arm of the Houston-based Bosarge Family Office, announced today the appointment of Warren Sherman, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Sherman is a renowned interventional cardiologist with a long and established focus in cell-based therapies.

Dr. Warren Sherman joins BBLS as Chief Medical Officer

As Chief Medical Officer at BBLS, Dr. Sherman will serve on the company's executive management team, providing strategic guidance in management and technology development focused on research and clinical activities. Marc S. Penn, M.D., Ph.D., FACC, serves as Chief Executive of BBLS, leading teams of researchers specializing in diverse medical disciplines. "Dr. Sherman's clinical, commercial and research expertise in the field of regenerative medicine adds tremendous value to BBLS. He will help drive the development of novel clinical protocols across our portfolio with special focus at Okyanos Center for Regenerative Medicine on Grand Bahama Island. There, he will treat cardiac patients and oversee the accrual of clinically relevant data from patients treated with our portfolio of therapeutics. We are very fortunate to have someone of Dr. Sherman's caliber joining our team."

"I am thrilled and gratified to join BBLS," said Dr. Sherman. "Under the leadership of Marc Penn, the BBLS approach to scientific discovery and clinical operations is timely and unique. It gives the entire BBLS portfolio the depth and agility vital to succeed in the current environment, and I believe it will become an effective model as our activities expand."

Dr. Sherman previously served as Chief Medical Officer at Celyad SA and most recently at LoneStar Heart, Inc. Both are leading biotech companies specializing in the discovery and development of regenerative, protective and reconstructive therapies.

Over the past decade, Dr. Sherman has held a number of prominent positions at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, including Director of Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine at the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy and Associate Professor of Medicine. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology with the American Board of Internal Medicine.

At Okyanos, Dr. Sherman will serve as interventional cardiologist providing the highest level of care for patients with chronic heart failure and refractory angina. Dr. Sherman will also oversee the Physician Advisory Board, collaborating with Okyanos' team of board-certified orthopedists, cardiologists and regenerative medicine specialists. Okyanos' team treats a range of conditions including orthopedic sports injuries, osteoarthritis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and heart disease in order to serve patients who seek additional therapies beyond what is currently offered by the available standard of care.

Founded in 2011, Okyanos is located in Freeport, Bahamas, just 30 minutes from southern Florida. Okyanos is licensed by the Bahamas' National Stem Cell Ethics Committee (NSCEC), providing safe, regenerative therapies to patients with chronic conditions so they can live longer and healthier lives.
