Back in business: After a fire, Periwinkle Marketplace in Ottertail is up and running again

April 23-- Apr. 23--OTTERTAIL -- On Feb. 21, 2018, the city of Ottertail lost a successful business as a fire engulfed Periwinkle Marketplace, causing a total loss. Although the fire destroyed the building, the marketplace, located at 328 State Highway 78, rose like a phoenix from the ashes as they opened their new building Friday, April 12.

"It is so exciting to see our customers again," owner Stephanie Ellingson said.

The business looks to recover from a fire that was started in an attached garage to the building.

Ellingson mentioned at the time that it was a "tragic loss of the business, but everybody got out and we're just happy that the boys are OK." Ellingson also mentioned that they would rebuild because they wanted to continue the business and they love Ottertail.

With her eyes set on the rebuild, Ellingson worked with BHH Partners to redesign the building. "We knew that we wanted higher ceilings in the new space and good lighting."

In just over a year, the business was back up and running thanks to Woessner Construction. "They did a great job keeping everything rolling," Ellingson said. The building also has additional common space that Ellingson could rent out for parties or classes.

Along with the new building, the business was able to add additional items to their usual stock. "We expanded with more kid items, candy, men's, tabletop, etc. We have something for everyone," Ellingson said.

Periwinkle Marketplace will be holding a grand opening on Saturday, May 18. The business will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday with expanded summer hours from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

"We really have a great community who supports us," Ellingson said.
