AXA XL Names Luis Prato as Chief Underwriting Officer for UK Entities

DUBLIN, Ireland, Sept. 12 -- AXA XL, an insurance and reinsurance company, issued the following news release:

AXA XL insurance today announced that Luis Prato has been appointed Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for UK legal entities: Catlin Underwriting Agencies Ltd (CUAL) and XL Catlin Insurance Company UK Limited (XLCICL), subject to regulatory approvals.

Mr. Prato will now be responsible for developing core underwriting strategies and optimising product offering and profitability for both CUAL and XLCICL. The appointment is effective as of 1 September 2019. He takes up his new role in addition to his responsibilities as Insurance Active Underwriter for Syndicate 2003 and Regional Specialty Leader for the UK & Ireland.

CUAL is a managing agent at Lloyd's. The primary syndicate managed by CUAL is Syndicate 2003 (wholly supported by AXA XL corporate members at Lloyd's), which underwrites a full range of property, casualty, marine, aviation and other specialty coverages.

XLCICL is UK-based and offers property and casualty insurance and reinsurance products, primarily in the UK and Europe.

Mr. Prato's extensive career began in 1991, as a Risk Engineering Consultant for Risk Master Co. He later worked as a Loss Prevention Representative at Industrial Risk Insurers, before taking up a position as Senior Underwriter for Energy and Managing Director, Latin American Division at Zurich Global Energy in 1998. He moved to Allied World Insurance Company in 2002, where he was Vice President - Energy & Heavy Industries. After a short stint as Senior Underwriter and Deputy Head - Onshore Property at AEGIS London, he joined Catlin in 2008 as Head of Downstream Energy, UK & Ireland. He was promoted to Head of UK Energy and Regional Product Leader for the UK & Ireland in 2016, and made Insurance Active Underwriter for Syndicate 2003 at the beginning of this year.
