Anthem Establishes Coverage of C2N Diagnostics’ Blood Test for Alzheimer’s Disease Evaluation

CLP Edit StaffClinical Lab Products

The insurer will cover the PrecivityAD2 blood test for Alzheimer’s disease evaluation starting Oct 1, 2026, expanding access to the diagnostic tool for adults with cognitive decline.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will begin providing insurance coverage for the PrecivityAD2 blood test starting Oct 1, 2026, C2N Diagnostics announced. The medical policy expands access to the diagnostic tool for adults experiencing cognitive decline or other symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

The test aids health care professionals in determining the likelihood of amyloid plaques in the brain, which is a hallmark of the disease. Anthem is the second-largest health insurer in the US, serving approximately 40 million members across 14 states including California, Missouri, and Georgia.

“Anthem’s coverage of the PrecivityAD2 blood test is a meaningful step toward reducing financial barriers and improving access to evidence-based, clinically validated Alzheimer’s disease diagnostics,” says Joel Braunstein, president and CEO of C2N Diagnostics, in a release.

In its policy decision, Anthem referenced a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showing the test correctly identified amyloid pathology in more than 90% of patients. This performance level is comparable to cerebrospinal fluid testing and positron emission tomography brain scans, according to the press release.

Further research published in the journal Diagnostics showed that health care professionals reported higher diagnostic confidence when using the test. This confidence was associated with adjustments in clinical care, including changes to medication plans and further amyloid testing, the company says.

The PrecivityAD2 test is available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and can be ordered by a health care professional.
