American Cancer Society Honors AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania Medicaid Plans with Health Systems Excellence Award

Insurance Weekly News

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Weekly News -- AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other health care solutions for those most in need, announced that two of its Medicaid health plans, AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania and AmeriHealth Caritas Northeast, were recently recognized by the American Cancer Society's East Central Division Awards Committee with the Health Systems Excellence Award.

The Health Systems Excellence Award recognizes health care organizations that have gone above and beyond to embrace the full scope of their relationship with the American Cancer Society. AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania and AmeriHealth Caritas Northeast received the award for demonstrating exemplary support in advancing the fight against cancer.

"We are not only committed to facilitating access to important, life-saving health care services, but also sensitive to the emotional support that is often necessary to overcome fears associated with cancer screenings," said Marge Angello, market president for AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania and AmeriHealth Caritas Northeast.

AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania, AmeriHealth Caritas Northeast, and the American Cancer Society engage health care providers throughout Pennsylvania, in particular federally qualified health centers (FQHCs). Working side by side, the organizations deliver actionable plans to increase cancer screening rates, and provide outreach and education to populations at greatest risk for adverse cancer health outcomes.

"AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania and AmeriHealth Caritas Northeast are invaluable partners in our mission to eliminate disparities in access to care and empower communities to close cancer screening gaps," said Alesia Mitchell-Bailey, health systems manager for the East Central Division of the American Cancer Society. "Together, we are saving lives."

In addition, AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania and AmeriHealth Caritas Northeast have been combining efforts to support the American Cancer Society and National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable's "80% by 2018" initiative, working toward the shared goal of 80 percent of adults ages 50 and older being regularly screened for colorectal cancer by 2018.
