North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced July 17 that 42-year-old Rachel Nicole Conley - who has a listed address of 378 North Rhododendron Road in Almond, was arrested and charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony. According to special agents with the North Carolina Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division, Conley attempted to defraud American Family Life Assurance Company by issuing false statements on an insurance policy. According to the criminal summons, the offenses occurred on July 7, 2023. Conley was served on July 1. She was ordered to appear in Graham County District Court on Monday, July 29. "Insurance fraud hits consumers in the
wallet," Causey said. "Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I'm fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina." If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division by calling 919-807-6840 (or toll free, 888-680-7684).
