Allsup to lay off 29 employees

July 29--BELLEVILLE -- Allsup, a Belleville-based company that guides people through the maze of disability services, said Friday it plans to lay off about 5 percent of its workforce during the next six months.

Company Director of Corporate Public Relations Rebecca Ray said in an email 29 employees, a majority of whom work in Claims and Information Technology, are set to be laid off.

"Allsup is continuing our business evolution through the use of new technology and processes to support our customers, clients and the company's long-term growth and profitability. This migration to new business methods includes adjusting our staffing levels to accommodate these changes," the company said.

The 29 employees who are leaving during the next six months will be offered a severance package that includes compensation, services and benefits, the company said.

About 500 people work for Allsup.

"As business needs dictate, there may be other roles available for some of these staff," the company said.

The company worked to assure customers that services would go on.

"Allsup employees continue to assist tens of thousands of customers nationwide with Empower by Allsup and Social Security Disability Insurance representation; Medicare and healthcare insurance services; veterans disability appeal services and return-to-work services," the company said.
