Actions Taken: Health Care Officials Dole Out Punishments and Reprieves

Chronicle, The (Centralia, WA)

Jan. 27--The Washington State Department of Health recently released a list that notes at least 19 health care professionals who were sanctioned with official actions during April and May of 2016.

Regionally, actions were taken toward health care workers in Thurston, Grays Harbor, Pierce, and Clark counties.

Thurston County

In 2015, Chelan Nicole Brasher was charged in Oregon with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of menacing, and two counts of recklessly endangering another person. In April of 2016, Brasher was denied a home care aide credential by the secretary of health.

Grays Harbor County

In May, the secretary of health ended probation for Margaret Mare Cabell, a chemical dependency professional trainee.

Pierce County

In April, the secretary of health conditionally granted Alice L. Montes a registered nursing assistant credential. Montes was also placed on probation in relation to convictions for third-degree theft in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

In May, the secretary of health ended probation for chemical dependency professional trainees Jeremiah Shane Dunlap and Michael Andrew Thompson.

Clark County

Stanton Geo Miller Jr. was charged with unprofessional conduct by the Nursing Commission in May after he allegedly admitted to diverting controlled substances from the facility where he was employed.

And Lauren Bukovi was placed on probation for at least two years and had her licensed practical nurse credential reinstated by the Nursing Commission in May. In 2015, Bukovi had her license suspended due to a sexual relationship with a client.

The Health Systems Quality Assurance Division works with boards, commissions and advisory committees in order to set licensing standards for more than 80 health care professions, ranging from medical doctors to veterinarians.

Information about health care providers is available on the DOH website at doh.wa.gov. Visitors to the webpage should click on the "How Do I" section for more information. The site includes detailed information about the license status of health care workers, including the expiration and renewal date of their credential, disciplinary actions and copies of legal documents issued after July 1998. The information is also available by calling 360-236-4700.
