West Hartford Police: Man Dragged Girlfriend Out Of Ex-Boyfriend’s Car, Kidnaps Her [The Hartford Courant, Conn.]

Aug. 26--WEST HARTFORD -- A man who police said dragged his girlfriend into his truck after spotting her in her ex-boyfriend's car faces kidnapping and other charges.

Christopher Hines, 48, of West Street in Rocky Hill was charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree unlawful restraint, reckless driving and breach of peace, police said.

During his arraignment Thursday in Superior Court in Hartford, his bail was set at $60,000 and his next court date was scheduled for Sept. 24.

Witnesses called police shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday when they saw a woman being pulled out of a car and forced into a white pick-up truck on Pheasant Hill Drive, police said.

Responding officers learned that Hines had seen his girlfriend in her ex-boyfriend's car and forced the car off the road in front of 49 Pheasant Hill Road, police said. He then pulled her out of the car by her wrists, dragged her to his pick-up truck and forced her to get into his truck, they said.

The woman's cell phone had been left behind, however, and police were able to use it to get Hines' cell phone number, police said. An officer called Hines, talked to the woman and learned that the truck was heading toward Wethersfield.

When the woman told police they had just passed the Wethersfield Police Department, the officer told her to tell Hines to turn around and go back.

He did, police said.
