Two in Berea mayor’s race

Aug. 10--RICHMOND -- Incumbent Berea Mayor Steve Connelly got a challenger this past week when Paul Reynolds, an insurance agent and agency owner, filed for the non-partisan race.

As of 4 p.m. Friday, Connelly and Reynolds were the only two candidates in the race.

Candidates have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to file for Berea Mayor, Berea City Council, Madison County School Board or Berea Independent School Board, according to information provided by the county clerk's office.

Only seven candidates had filed for the eight-member Berea City Council by Friday afternoon.

Four newcomers seeking to join the council include Steve Caudill, Jeff Read, Mae Suramek and Adriel Woodman. Three incumbents, Chad Hembree, Diane Kerby and Ronnie Terrill, also have filed.

Two seats on the Madison County School Board are up for election this year.

Mary Renfro, the incumbent in District 4, has filed for re-election, but faced no opposition as of Friday.

Board chair Mona Isaacs, who represents District 3, has said she will not seek re-election, and former school district employee Pam Hogge has filed for her seat.

Three candidates have filed for the Berea Independent School Board, incumbents Jacqueline Burnside and Linda Wagers and newcomer Glenn Jennings.
