Tulsa Personal Injury Attorney Jeff Martin Weighs in on Back-to-School Safety for Drivers, Pedestrians

PR Web

Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) September 28, 2013

With the new school year already underway in parts of Oklahoma, Tulsa car accident lawyerJeff Martin said today that it’s important for both drivers and pedestrians to exercise extra caution while around school zones.

According to a recent News On 6 report (“Tulsa Police Remind Drivers, Parents Of Back-To-School Safety,” August 19), Tulsa police offered back-to-school safety tips designed to keep children safe and to remind drivers that their actions could have serious legal consequences.

“While in a school zone, it’s not uncommon for buses to stop frequently and to see children crossing the road at crosswalks. It’s crucial for drivers to slow down, put down their cell phones, and to pay careful attention to their surroundings. When a driver is caught speeding in a school zone, they face a mandatory court appearance,” said Martin, who represents victims of negligence and families whose loved ones were killed in accidents. “I can’t think of anything much worse than for a parent to lose a child due to someone’s careless behavior. That’s why it’s critical for drivers to be extra cautious around school zones.”

News On 6 also reported a number of safety tips for parents whose children might be walking or bicycling to school, including teaching children to obey traffic signals, following direction of crossing guards, and wearing proper safety attire.

In addition, Tulsa police suggested that children should know their route to and from school, walk on well-lighted sidewalks, and stand a safe distance from the road while waiting for the bus, according to News On 6.

“The safety and well-being of a child is important to any parent. Following these common-sense safety tips on Oklahoma sidewalks and crosswalks could dramatically reduce the risk of a child being involved in a pedestrian accident,” said Martin, a car accident attorney in Tulsa. “Accidents involving a pedestrian and a moving vehicle can be catastrophic, causing very serious injuries. If your child has been hurt due to a driver’s negligent behavior, don’t hesitate to talk to an attorney, who can help protect your rights. A lawyer also can help you send a message that negligent behavior by drivers will not be tolerated.”
