Travel Insurance Can Help With Winter Travel Delays, According to Travel Insurance Center

Source:  PR Web

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) November 22, 2011

With both winter and the busy holiday season already upon us, travelers can count on more delays than they experienced in the summer months. According to Travel Insurance Center, a delay can strand a traveler for hours, even days and since airlines don’t reimburse for such an event it can quickly deplete wallets paying for hotel accommodations, meals, and transportation.

Dan Drennen, Director of Sales and Marketing for Travel Insurance Center, says many travelers booking flights this time of year are thinking to themselves, “I wonder if the weather will be good at that time?” Or, “Oh jeez, I hope it doesn’t snow again!” “When it comes to winter travel, travelers can’t predict what the weather will be like,” Drennen said. “Unfortunately, most travelers pretty much have to deal with whatever Mother Nature tosses their way and prepare themselves for any delays that might happen.”

Thanksgiving holiday being the busiest and most hectic travel season of the year, travelers should prepare and expect delays for that reason alone. The 2011 holiday travel forecast is predicting 20.9 million domestic flyers this thanksgiving season, a 12 day period from November 19 to November 28. Holiday travel can be a stressful time caused by heightened security, crowded terminals, and overbooked flights. However, if travelers take steps to prepare themselves it can help get them through some of those stressful events.

“Purchasing a travel insurance policy that includes a travel delay benefit can give travelers a little piece of mind knowing they could recoup additional expenses incurred for hotel accommodations, meals, and transportation due to the delay or cancellation of a scheduled flight because of inclement weather,” Drennen said. Travel insurance travel delay benefits do vary by insurance company and policy purchased. The trigger for a delay benefit to kick in is typically a delay of 5 or 6 hours or more. Always check the specific policy description of coverage for the benefit level and limitations of the travel insurance policy you may be considering.

Travel insurance plans are available for single trips and are also available as annual policies for coverage during each trip taken during the year for the frequent business traveler.
