The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company Announces Sponsorship of The Long Road Home Project in Support of Returning Veterans

The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, a more than 165-year-old company, proudly announces sponsorship of The Long Road Home Project, one of many ways the company continues to support veterans and veteran causes.

On Sunday, July 15, five military heroes began a 90-day bike ride from Aberdeen, Washington to Washington, D.C. to raise money and awareness for other veterans in need of services in the long road to transitioning back to civilian life. The veterans will pedal through 12 states and cover over 4,000 miles on their journey.

“Penn Mutual is proud to sponsor The Long Road Home Project, which was started by civilian Casey Miller, as a way to help veterans with their transitions home,” said Eileen McDonnell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Penn Mutual. “As a company who prides itself on encouraging others to realize life’s possibilities, we are honored to stand by these brave men and women as they cycle across the country to spread the message that continued support is needed in making their transition home a fulfilling experience.”

In addition to Penn Mutual’s sponsorship, the company will provide moral support for the riders along the cross-country route, in areas where there is an agency or regional office presence. Lance Peters, a veteran of the Gulf War and a member of Penn Mutual’s Jonson Agency in Bellevue, Washington, will speak at the first rally scheduled to occur at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18 at the University of Washington.

Last spring, Penn Mutual gifted The American College, the nation’s largest non-profit educational institution devoted to financial services, based in Bryn Mawr, Pa., with $2.5 million to create the scholarship program, which gives veterans the opportunity to pursue financial services designations or a master’s degree. The company also participates in USO homecomings and send-offs, and sponsors veteran job fairs.
