The Horton Group Encourages Individuals to Schedule an Eye Examination in Light of National Eye Exam Month

PR Web

(PRWEB) August 26, 2013

The Horton Group, one of the largest, privately owned insurance brokers in the Midwest, encourages individuals to focus on their health this month — eye health that is. The agency recognizes August as National Eye Exam Month and for good reason. Eye health plays a major role in a person’s overall health. As a trusted health insurance provider, the agency takes an interest in the health of its clients, neighbors, and friends across the nation and would like to share a few reasons why an eye exam is important.

According to the Mayo Clinic website, adults between the ages of 45 and 65 should have their vision checked at least ONCE every two to four years. For individuals over the age of 65, the eye test is important to have done at least once every two years. Those younger than 45 may not have to go quite as often — every five to ten years should suffice, unless he or she has specific vision concerns.

No matter how often an individual goes to have his or her eyes checked, the benefits are the same. Here are just a few of the major reasons to have a doctor keep an “eye” out:

   •      Early detection for a number of health issues, including: glaucoma, macular degeneration, blinding eye conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes and diabetic eye disease, high cholesterol, and more.

   •      The earlier a doctor detects a health issue, the better chance to have it treated and corrected.

   •      An individual may never know if there is an eye issue affecting their health. The eyes do not feel pain, unlike most parts of the body.

   •      Poor eye sight is not only dangerous for the patient, but those around them. If a person is still driving and has poor vision, they could be putting a lot of people at risk.

It is easy to take the ability to see for granted, but not this time. The Horton Group wants to make sure that everyone is aware of the importance of an eye exam, regardless of what month it is.

Individuals who are concerned about vision coverage should contact the agency directly at 877-496-1446. The agency offers a wide variety of health insurance solutions to individuals and families across the county—including vision insurance. With a comprehensive and affordable policy in place, an eye exam may be completely affordable.
