The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers Turns 100; Unveils Centennial Anniversary Microsite

Targeted News Service

WASHINGTON, March 26 -- The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers issued the following news release: The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers turns 100 years old in 2013, and has launched various initiatives to mark the occasion. As part of its celebratory efforts, The Council's past, present and future will be highlighted in the pages of Leader's Edge magazine throughout the year as well as on its just-launched 100th anniversary microsite, www.ciab100.com.

The ciab100.com microsite is a colorful repository featuring a "Century of Game Changers," global trends, an interactive timeline, facts, statistics and more. New content and information will be posted each month, highlighting The Council's transformation over the years.

"Our goal this year is to pay tribute to our past, but more importantly, to look towards and prepare our members for the future," said Ken A. Crerar, president/CEO of The Council. "We've got a lot of exciting initiatives up and running and are looking forward to engaging the entire industry in these efforts throughout the year."

The Council's Century of Game Changers (http://ciab100.com/?type=gamechangers) are people and events that have had a significant impact on the commercial insurance industry over the past 100 years. The first 20 were announced in Leader's Edge and include Alfred M. Best, Hendon Chubb, the McCarran-Ferguson Act, among others. In addition, Leader's Edge is publishing monthly global trend (http://ciab100.com/?type=trends) articles, exploring the economic, geopolitical and social implications of challenges and opportunities that will impact lives and our industry in the foreseeable future. The Council is also offering a members-only webinar series called Broker's Edge. These monthly webinars will tackle emerging risks and trends in both the property/casualty and employee benefits industries. Next month's Broker's Edge will cover the evolution of outsourcing.

Finally, the Foundation for Agency Management Excellence (FAME), the 501c (3) charitable arm of The Council, is sponsoring a $10,000 student competition in which Risk Management & Insurance majors at FAME-sponsored schools are developing business plans to tackle industry issues like recruitment and the future broker model. To date, there are 17 entries from 14 different schools. The winner will receive a $10,000 award and a trip to the 2013 Insurance Leadership Forum in Colorado Springs.
