Tennessee Railroads Inc. appoints Tausha Carmack Alexander executive director

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tausha Carmack Alexander has been appointed executive director of Tennessee Railroads Inc. (TRI), the trade association for Class I freight railroads operating in the state. In her position, Alexander will serve as TRI's primary lobbyist in Nashville.

Alexander has extensive government relations experience in both the public and private sectors representing various interests, including insurance, pharmaceutical, non-profits, trade associations, municipalities, and healthcare organizations. Her duties have included reviewing, researching, drafting and monitoring legislative and legal issues, as well as developing and implementing goals and strategies for her clients in the legislative and regulatory arenas. She also has experience in overseeing and administering political action committee activities.

Alexander formed her government relations practice in 2010.Alexander began her government relation's career with the Tennessee Bankers Association (TBA) where she served as vice president and deputy general counsel.  She was promoted to that position in 2007, from associate counsel, a position she had held since 2002. Prior to joining the TBA, Alexander practiced law in Kingsport, Tenn. Her areas of practice included: general civil litigation, insurance defense and civil rights defense. 

Alexander has degrees from the University of Tennessee,where she was named a Torchbearer, and the University of Tennessee College of Law. She is a past board member of the Tennessee Lobbyist Association.

The Tennessee Railroads Inc. represents the interests of the Class I railroads operating over more than 2,000 miles of track in the state and employing approximately 4,000 workers. Class I railroads include BNSF, CN, CSX Transportation, and Norfolk Southern.
