McClatchy-Tribune Information Services

May 29--In a rare Tuesday meeting, the Mitchell Board of Education will convene at 5 p.m. today in Room at the Mitchell Technical Institute north campus, 821 N. St., Mitchell. The meeting was changed from its Monday time slot due to the Memorial Day holiday.

As part of today's agenda the board will:

--Consider approving an agreement to renew the district's property and liability insurance under the Associated School Boards of South Dakota plan.

--Consider approving an agreement to renew the district's participation in the ASBSD benefits fund for the coming school year.

--Consider approving an agreement to renew district participation in the ASBSD workers' compensation pool.

--Get a first look at the 2012-2013 preliminary budgets for capital outlay, special education, food service and pension funds.

--Consider, as part of a consent agenda, approving the following personnel items for the 2012-2013 school year:

New hires: Kimberly Hargens, speech language pathology assistant, $22,000 a year; Jared Thomas, M.A., part-time physical education at Longfellow Elementary School, $7,200; Lacey Tebay, library assistant, Mitchell High School, eight hours a day at $11.50 an hour. Transfers: April Geist, from Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary School to Longfellow, full-time art education; Alyson Palmer, F.A., from part-time art at Gertie Belle Rogers to fulltime art at Mitchell Middle School and Mitchell High School, $34,000 a year; Dodi Schlueter, from fifth grade at L.B. Williams Elementary school, to seventh grade math at MMS. Resignations: Kaitlyn Flesner, Sara Long, toddler teachers at the Child Development Center, effective May 15; Anita Sutherland, school nurse, LBW and Mitchell High School, effective at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

--Consider approving the Mitchell Middle School handbook for the 2012 2013 school year.
