Rubyville Fire Department open house

Sept. 30--The Rubyville Fire Department will be hosting an open house of their new facility to honor the closing of Fire Prevention Week on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The new location, at 3019 Maple Benner Road, hasn't been opened to the public yet and the department is excited to show the new facility and technology they are now equipped with.

"We want to show the progress we've made and meet people on a non-emergency basis," Chief Miles Horsley said. "We just moved in the location April of this year and so far is so good. We upgraded to all electric door openers, instead of manual. We can now just pull out and close the door. Everything is upgraded and we now have plenty of room. It definitely brings a lot of good for everyone in our service area."

Horsley said that the move has put them within a five mile reach of all locals, which should lower residential insurance rates, while not raising any tax levies.

"Learn how this community improvement project did not and will not raise your fire levy taxes, how our new location could have a positive effect on your homeowner's insurance, and last but not least, check out all of the equipment that we use to help keep our community a safer place," Horsley said. "So come check us out and enjoy some free food."

There will be events for kids to enjoy and the department will be giving information on smoke alarms, which is the theme of Fire Prevention Week this year. Information will also be available concerning free smoke detectors. There will also be a tour of the entire building, including the new meeting and recreation room, which can be rented out.
