Rotary International president Gary Huang to visit Waynesboro

July 29--The president of Rotary International, one of the world's largest humanitarian service organizations, will soon recognize the work of the Rotary Club of Waynesboro during a visit to south central Pennsylvania.

Gary Huang, international president, will be the guest at a Rotary International president's dinner at Green Grove Gardens, Greencastle, on Aug. 4. He will be the key speaker for the program following the meal.

"This dinner presents an amazing opportunity for Rotarians," said Jason Piatt, governor of Rotary District 7360. "I've had the privilege of hearing Gary speak on a number of occasions. He is entertaining and engaging but also carries a fabulous message. He is someone that I have truly grown to like and admire."

Huang and his wife, Corinna, will also tour several attractions in the Waynesboro community where projects sponsored by Waynesboro Rotary have been completed and he will participate in a Rotary luncheon. Piatt said this is the first time a current president of Rotary International has visited any town within District 7360.

Born in China and raised in Taiwan, Huang is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and has a masters degree in business administration from the College of Insurance in New York.

A Rotarian since 1976, Huang is a member of the Rotary Club of Taipei, Taiwan. He has been a district governor, director and vice-president, trustee of The Rotary Foundation and chairman and member of many international committees and task forces.

As a Rotary Foundation trustee, Huang helped develop membership throughout Asia by setting a recruitment goal of 100 new foundation major donors in Taiwan to help celebrate Rotary's centennial. His accomplishment added more than $2 million to the foundation's annual fund.

Huang recounted his experience in business and life within Rotary in a 2004 book, "Finding Solutions, Not Excuses."
