Registration starts for free dental clinic

July 29--DURHAM -- Traditional schools will begin soon, but many children in Durham County will start the school year without proper dental care.

To help children start the school year off on the right track, the Durham County Department of Public Health, with the assistance from dental professionals in the community, will host its annual Back to School Smiles Day on Aug. 22 from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Appointment scheduling for the event, now in its third year, begins on Aug. 1 on a first-come, first-served basis. To schedule an appointment, call 919-560-7680, between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

To qualify for free services (exams and X-rays), children must:

- Be between the ages of 5 and 18

- Reside in Durham County

- Be a new dental patient to public health's dental clinic.

- Have no dental insurance

- Have no dental care home

The Durham County Department of Public HealthDurham from low-income families who do not receive proper dental care.
