Oct. 31--Emmanuel Guerra and Luis Anguiano scored goals, and keeper Eric Cortez made five saves Wednesday night as visiting North Forsyth defeated Harrisburg Hickory Ridge 2-1 in the first round of the NCHSAA 3-A soccer playoffs.

Guerra scored in the 13th minute off Jasson Vega's assist, and Anguiano made it 2-0 in the 60th minute when he finished after a pass from Andy Romero.

Hickory Ridge (11-8-3) avoided the shutout when Chris Inman scored with less than three minutes to play. North (11-10-1) finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots.

East Forsyth 2, North Davidson 0: Garrett Hawley scored twice, and East Forsyth's defense limited visiting North Davidson to four shots in a Class 4-A opener.

Hawley broke a scoreless tie in the 57th minute, with Josh Grix assisting on the goal. Hawley added an insurance goal 13 minutes later off Jack Cameron's assist.

East finished with a 10-4 advantage in shots, and Ryan Donahue had to make just one save for the shutout. Colin Bunker had four saves for North Davidson, which finished 14-7-3.

East Forsyth (14-3-3) will be at home for Saturday's second round against Mooresville, a 2-1 overtime winner against Watauga.

Mount Tabor 3, Olympic 0: D.J. Leslie scored twice, and Austin McCullough added a goal and an assist as Mount Tabor won at home in an NCHSAA 4-A opener.

Leslie scored the only goal the Spartans (15-5-2) needed at 6:59, with Drew Appleyard and Jonah da Luz assisting on the play. McCullough made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 26:55, then set up Leslie for another goal at 72:42.

Bryce Davis made six saves for the shutout, Jarod Harrington had five saves for Olympic, and each team took 14 shots. Mount Tabor will play host to Charlotte Catholic in Saturday's second round.

McGuinness 5, South Davidson 0: John Boyle scored two goals and assisted on a third, and Andrew Chappelow added a goal and an assist as Bishop McGuinness coasted to an NCHSAA 1-A win in Kernersville.

Boyle scored at 21 and 36 minutes, and Chappelow at 33 minutes to stake the Villains to a 3-0 halftime lead. Logan Smith and Carl Klier added second-half goals, and Jason Standen, Arun Kelley-Rajan and Will Webster added an assist each.

McGuinness (7-9-2) outshot South 21-3, and Earl Bonoan made one save for the shutout. McGuinness will play at Mount Airy at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second round.

Myers Park 2, West Forsyth 0: Solopino Bridges scored with four seconds left in the first half, and Ali Ausman scored late in the second half to lead Charlotte Myers Park past visiting West Forsyth in a Class 4-A playoff opener.

Josh Stafford had three saves for West, but Myers Park had advantages of 15-9 in shots and 11-0 in corner kicks. West finished 7-10-5.
