North American International Auto Show Reveals Poster Contest Winners

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) announced the winners of its annual high school poster contest held in conjunction with the upcoming 2014 show, which takes place Jan. 13-26 at Cobo Center in Detroit.

According to a release, this year's contest drew a record 989 entries from 73 high schools.

NAIAS noted that the grand prize, the Chairmen's Award of $1,000, will be presented to Lindsey Simon, a 12th grade student at Romeo Engineering and Technology Center in Washington, Mich. The NAIAS 2014 Chairman, Bob Shuman, selected the winning entry, which will be printed in the official NAIAS program.

Further, the 26th annual contest, established to engage the creative minds of Michigan's future artists, recognizes students from throughout the state.

"The record number of entries speaks volumes about interest in NAIAS and global auto industry," said Shuman. "What is especially important is that these students exhibited the creative talent that is so critical to the success of this industry. We congratulate the winning artists."

Winners were also selected in the following categories and awarded cash prizes:

Honoree who received a $1,000 prize:

-State Farm Insurance Award

-Angelica Paparizos, Henry Ford High School, Sterling Heights

Honorees who each received a $500 prize:

-Designer's Best of Show - Digital

-Derrick Wayne Willis Bowie, Kalamazoo Central High School, Kalamazoo

-Designer's Best of Show - Traditional

-Haley Touchette, Grand Blanc High School, Grand Blanc

-10th Grade Award, 1st Place

-Katelyn Galant, Lakeview High School, St. Clair Shores

-11th Grade Award, 1st Place

-Zoe Wilson, Careerline Technical Center, Holland

-12th Grade Award, 1st Place

-Jennifer Tigani, William D. Ford Career Technical Center, Westland

Honorees who each received a $250 prize:

-Most Creative Award

-Jefferson Braybrook, Careerline Tech Center, Holland

-Best Use of Color Award

-Teada Ngin, Careerline Tech Center, Holland

-Best Theme Award

-Tiffany Teng, Novi High School, Novi

Honorees who each received a $250 prize:

-10th Grade Award, 2nd Place

-Mujo Hrnjica, Hamtramck High School, Hamtramck

-11th Grade Award, 2nd Place

-Veronica Peterson, William D. Ford Career Technical Center, Westland

-12th Grade Award, 2nd Place

-Jennifer Tigani, William D. Ford Career Technical Center, Westland

Honorees who each received a $100 prize:

-10th Grade Award, 3rd Place

-Claire Beresford, Bloomfield Hills High School, Bloomfield Hills

-11th Grade Award, 3rd Place

-Paris Leek, Careerline Tech Center, Holland

-12th Grade Award, 3rd Place

-Ronald Malmsten, William D. Ford Career Technical Center, Westland

The NAIAS 2014 Chairmen, a General Motors Automotive Designer, a College for Creative Studies Instructor, and a State Farm Insurance Representative judged the posters. All winning entries will be posted on the official NAIAS website, and will be on display January 18-26 at the NAIAS 2014. The 26th Annual High School Poster Contest was open to Michigan students in grades 10 through 12.

The NAIAS is an auto show, providing access to the automotive products, people and ideas.
