New chiropractor puts focus for clients on staying active

April 09--LAKE WYLIE -- There's a new option in Lake Wylie for making sure your body is ready for the rigors of a workout or just staying active.

Todd Riddle opened the doors April 1 to Southeast Sports & Rehabilitation at CrossFit Lake Wylie at Shoppes at the Landing. Riddle will focus on chiropractic needs and rehabilitation, while Amanda Edwards joins the office as massage therapist.

The center is completely filled now, as CrossFit opened in January becoming the first ever tenant of the 5,500-square-foot anchor space at 221 Latitude Lane. Owner Tom Justice included office space for a sports medicine office to complement the business.

"I was looking for a certain type of doctor," he said. "I wanted one who understands the needs of athletes."

Justice said while CrossFit coaches can train their clients, a sports doctor can help address problems, such as issues impeding movement.

"Having a sports doctor to prevent injury and understands athletes needs" is important, Just said.

The fitness center, now with more than 50 members and offering free introductory class every Saturday at 10 a.m., and Southeast Sports & Rehabilitation will hold a grand opening together soon, Justice said.

When the Lake Wylie location at CrossFit became available a couple of months ago, Riddle, a certified chiropractic sports physician with more than 15 years experience with an office in Spartanburg, jumped.

"I'd been looking for another opportunity," he said, explaining he works with another doctor at the Spartanburg office.

Riddle is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist and registered kinesiotherapist. He graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic, where he now is an instructor of clinical sciences. He says the difference between his chiropractic care and other offices is "a sports and activity focus."

"That's what really makes me tick," he said, "getting someone back to hiking, CrossFit training, whatever activity.

"My focus is always to get them back to where they want to be or better," Riddle said. "It's not just about chiropractic care but re-balancing everything involved."

His office care, he said, is for the 13-year-old baseball player to the 78-year-old who just want s to get up and down without pain.

"I'll do a thorough analysis of why it hurts when they run, when they sit, and suggest other things to fix the adjustment."

Edwards, a graduate of Florida School of Massage, said her therapeutic massages "address issues and let the body heal itself."

The 900-square-foot office keeps it simple with a check-in waiting area and two rooms in the back.

"It's industrial elegant," Riddle said, as a means to keep costs down and focus on the quality of care.

It's also a cash-only office. Riddle said this provides "significant savings compared to insurance deductibles." He also will work with clients on payment plans, if needed.

Riddle says an exam costs $30 and office visit is $35, with membership option available.

The view is a little different, too. A wall of windows looks into the CrossFit workout area.

"The energy of this place is great," Riddle said.

The center also includes Echo Attic, Lake Wylie Pharmacy, Salon 108, H&R Block, Nail Palace, Elite Combat Defense Tactics, Papa John's and Lake Wylie's post office.
