New York Nursing Home Negligence Lawyer Adnan Munawar Condems Cowardly Abuse of Queens Nursing Home Resident

NEW YORK, April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- One family's worst nightmare is being reported by the New York Post as an 80-yea-old nursing home patient was allegedly beaten and assaulted by one of her aired. Queens healthcare worker punched 80-year-old bedridden nursing home resident: officials, April 12 2015). Officials are claiming that Marie Jeanty, 59, was caring for the bedridden senior citizen at the West Lawrence Care Center when she went into a rage while trying to change the patient's clothes and sheets. The worker allegedly punched the victim so hard in her arm and shoulder that she hit her face on the bed rail. The victim, who suffers from osteoporosis, arthritis, and bone marrow disease, suffered a black eye and swelling on her arm and face.

Jeanty has been reportedly charged with second degree assault and two felonies for endangering the welfare of another. Jeanty's attorney claims his client is hard working and would never have intentionally harmed anyone. While Attorney General Eric Schneiderman was confident in his office's allegations, Jeanty's attorney says his client's version of events is entirely different and that she is not guilty.

"Nursing home abuse is particularly heart-wrenching because of how vulnerable the victims are," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "Families entrust nursing homes to care for the health and safety of their loved ones, and when they fail to do so, the damage can be unspeakable. Pretty much everyone will cringe when they see the bruised face of an 80-year-old. Of course, in this particular instance, we need to wait for the investigation and potential trial to unfold, but we are glad to see our state's highest office taking this issue seriously. All-too-often elderly patients are abused and it is essential that we send a message as a society that such treatment will not go unpunished."

"While the attorney general is responsible for bringing criminal charges, if victims and their families want to receive financial compensation, and they should, they need to bring a civil claim against the parties responsible, which may be more than just the worker involved. The healthcare facility, the manufacturer of a device used, or some other third party may also be responsible and you should utilize an expert to sort that out. Also, a criminal conviction can be used to help your civil claim and it is important to know how to do so properly. An experienced expert will guide you through the claims process, know how to hold the right parties accountable, and will not relent in his or her quest to get you the compensation you need and deserve. It is also a social justice issue, as it is vital to let those who abuse or neglect the elderly that there will be consequences. Consulting with a personal injury attorney is free and you only pay a fee when you win, so there is no reason not to call an attorney and find out how to start defending your rights immediately."
