New CFO/COO Named for Glacier Re in Run-Off

Catalina Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd. said it's appointed Martin Kauer to the joint roles of chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Glacier Re, its Swiss-based reinsurance company in run-off.

Catalina acquired Glacier Re earlier this year. Glacier Re was established in 2004 and wrote a diversified book of mostly short-tail reinsurance until it was put into run-off in August 2010.

Kauer has more than 25 years of experience as CFO/COO in the financial services industry and as an investment banker. Before joining Catalina, Kauer worked for Linq Asia Capital AG in Zurich and with Zurich Re/Converium Holding Ltd., as CFO and member of the global executive committee.

In February, A.M. Best affirmed the Best's Financial Strength Rating of B++ (Good) of Glacier Reinsurance, then removed the rating at the company's request (Best's News Service, Feb. 10, 2011). This followed Catalina's acquisition of Glacier Re.

Catalina Holdings acquires and manages nonlife insurance and reinsurance companies and portfolios in run-off, according to its website.
