NAPW Chicago, IL Local Chapter Wrapped Up 2012 with Charity Event at Square One and Makeup Application Workshop at ULTA

PR Web

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) January 15, 2013

The NAPW Chicago, IL Local Chapter wrapped up a productive and successful 2012 with two professional networking events. In November, the Chapter hosted its quarterly Cocktails for a Cause charity event, where the group of professional women networked and helped raised more than $2300 for the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. This October, at ULTA Beauty in the Woodfield Green Shopping Center in Schaumburg, members and guests learned how to look their best in the boardroom with a makeup lesson from Celebrity Makeup Artist Mark Chi. That event was co-sponsored by ULTA and New York Life Hispanic Marketing.

Megan Wessels, President of the Chicago Local Chapter, was on hand to welcome the more than 40 attendees to the Chapter’s November 14th Cocktails for a Cause at Square One on Michigan Avenue.

“This quarterly Chapter happening is a unique social networking event designed to allow professional women to network while supporting local charitable causes in the Chicago area,” said Megan. “Members and guests generously donated $10 per person and all proceeds benefited the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.”

Mercy Home is a full-time residential program that provides around-the-clock care in a safe and stable home for 134 young people, ages 11 to 21. Children who have suffered abuse, neglect, poverty, and abandonment are given the opportunity to rebuild their lives and receive encouragement to realize their dreams.

The President thanked everyone for coming to the event and making a donation. Mario Tamayo from Mercy Home spoke briefly about the nonprofit and explained its mission to members and guests. Children that come in to Mercy Home may come in off the streets; some are from broken homes with drug-addicted parents. Many have never had a Christmas before and are overwhelmed with emotion when they open their gifts and see their wishes have been granted, he told the crowd.

“The November benefit netted more than $2300 in donations and proceeds from raffle prizes. Nearly $800 was raised the night of the event and additional donations were made by NAPW Chicago Local Chapter members who could not attend the event, as well as from Chicago-land companies,” added the President. “Special thanks to The Lakone Company in Montgomery who gave $750 and to Accurate Color and Compounding for donating $500.”

Additionally, eighth grade students at Glencoe Central School hosted a hot cocoa sale and raised $175 to help the Mercy Home Wish List. Their teacher, Kimberly Dwan-Collins, is an advocate for teaching her students that there are other kids who are not as fortunate as themselves.

“The students clearly enjoy working together to contribute to a good cause,” said Megan.
The previous month, the Chapter gathered at ULTA Beauty in the Woodfield Green Shopping Center for a professional boardroom makeover workshop with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mark Chi. The event was planned and co-sponsored by New York Life Hispanic Marketing and ULTA Beauty in Schaumburg. It was a fun evening, where members and guests networked and were given professional makeup lessons and advice on beauty along with skincare tips from Mark Chi and other beauty experts. All attendees enjoyed learning how to make a bold statement and present a professional look using makeup.

“The goal was to combine a professional networking event with a lesson in boardroom make-up application,” said Chapter President Megan. “Every woman deserves to look and feel her best. From the boardroom to your networking event, your professional statement often times begins before an employer has viewed your resume.”
