Independence Blue Cross President Joe Frick Named 2010 United Way Campaign Chair

PHILADELPHIA, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Independence Blue Cross president and chief executive officer, Joseph A. Frick, accepted the role of United Way's 2010 Campaign Chair at the United Way's annual Champions for Impact awards breakfast on May 21. Frick takes the helm from Rosemary Turner, vice-president and chief operating officer of the Metro Philadelphia District for UPS, who led the campaign last year.

"Each year, we rely on the commitment and enthusiasm of hundreds of caring volunteers and staff to make our campaign a success. However, it's also vital to have an energetic, vibrant, and caring chairperson to lead that team to success, and that describes Joe Frick perfectly," said Jill Michal, president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. "Joe and Independence Blue Cross have been incredible partners with us for many years, and we are thrilled to have him lead our campaign this year."

"The initiatives the United Way supports are well-defined, and designed to bring about lasting solutionsto pressing problems in our region," said Joseph A. Frick, IBC president and CEO. "But at the core of its success are countless people,  staff, volunteers and donors, whose hard work and commitment have helped thousands of people build healthier, better lives. It's a privilege to serve as this year's chair, and I look forward to a very successful 2010 campaign."

IBC and its associates have long supported the United Way annual campaign; last year, more than 82 percent of the company's associates contributed to the campaign.  IBC is also a committed partner in the annual United Way Days of Caring event.  In 2009, 325 IBC associates volunteered at 10 sites throughout the city, helping on a variety of projects to beautify neighborhoods and help communities in need.  Since its inception five years ago, IBC has served as the presenting sponsor for the United Way Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow dinner, which recognizes the organization's efforts to mentor young women and build a foundation for them to succeed in school and in life.

IBC's Blue Crew volunteer group provides thousands of hours each year to community projects for many of the same agencies supported by the United Way.
