Dec. 13--VALLEY MORNING STAR

- HARLINGEN -- A 19-year-old Harlingen man was arrested Friday and charged with theft of four rolls of aluminum wire.

Maximiliano Torres, was arrested in the 500 block of North Jade Drive after a tip was provided by a Raymondville Police Department detective, Harlingen police said.

The Raymondville detective was working on a related theft by possession case, HPD said in a statement.

Torres and two other persons were questioned by Harlingen police and Torres was determined to be a person who had earlier fled from Raymondville officers during their investigation, HPD said.

During HPD's investigation at Torres' home, four spools of aluminum wire, valued at about $7,000, were found in the back yard, police said. The wire had been stolen at an earlier burglary of American Electric Power Co. property at 215 N. T St. in Harlingen, police said.

The spools of wire were identified by an AEP employee, photographed by crime scene technicians and returned to AEP, police said.

Torres was charged with theft of material aluminum/copper, a state jail felony, and taken to the city jail.

Torres was arraigned on Saturday and bond was set at $10,000.

- HARLINGEN -- Two 24-year-old men were arrested Saturday and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle.

Javier Alexis Zamora of San Benito and Jose Guadalupe Lucio of Harlingen, were arrested after officers responded to a call in the 900 block of North 27th Street, Harlingen police said.

A 52-year-old woman told police that between 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., someone had broken a window of her 2012 Nissan Sentra automobile and stolen her purse with $270 in it, police said.

Police located Zamora and Lucio near a dumpster and they matched the description of suspects in the burglary of the Nissan, police said.

Both subjects were intoxicated and detained for further investigation, police said.

During their investigation, officers located the victim's purse and some of its contents, police said. Both men were linked to the burglary of the Nissan and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and taken to the city jail.

The pair were arraigned Sunday and bond was set at $2,000 for each with burglary of a motor vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

- HARLINGEN -- A 39-year-old Harlingen woman was arrested Saturday by city police and arrested on five outstanding municipal court records.

Andre Brook Torres' 2007 silver Mercedes Benz was traveling northbound on 25th Street when she failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, police said. Her car collided with a second vehicle.

The 19-year-old woman who was driving the second car and a 5-year-old boy who was a passenger were taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision, police said.

Torres' car was occupied by two children, a 9-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl who did not report any injuries, police said.

Torres' arresting officer reported that she was incoherent, suspected of being under the influence of an unknown substance and that she failed a field sobriety test, police said.

During booking procedures, a clear plastic bag containing 0.2 grams of a controlled substance were found in Torres' possession, police said.

On Sunday, Torres was arraigned in municipal court and received three charges related to the accident: possession of controlled substance, bond $5,000; and two charges of driving while intoxicated with a child under age 15 with bonds of $10,000 on each of the two charges.

Outstanding Class C misdemeanor traffic warrants against Torres include: expired insurance, expired license plates, failure to control speed and two failure to appear in court citations, HPD Sgt. John Parrish said.

Torres' children were released to their father, police said.

-HARLINGEN -- A 17-year-old Harlingen High School South student was arrested Friday by an off-duty Harlingen police officer working as a school resource officer.

Darel Alejandro Palomo was searched by the officer, acting on a tip that he may be carrying a knife, police said.

The officer found a butterfly knife inside Palomo's backpack, police said.

The knife was seized as evidence and Palomo was arrested and charged with carrying a prohibited weapon on school grounds and taken to the city jail. Palomo was arraigned on Saturday and bond was set at $20,000.
