Gov. Perry Appoints Six to OneStar National Service Commission

AUSTIN, Texas, July 16 -- Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, announced the following appointment:
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed six members to the OneStar National Service Commission. The commission and the OneStar Foundation work together to further national service initiatives in Texas and to administer the AmeriCorps Texas program.
Kirk Beckert of Richardson is chief marketing officer of Texans Can Academies. He is a board member of the Texas Association of Business and Vision Regeneration, and a member of the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth. Beckert received a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a teaching certificate from the Texas A&M University Graduate School of Education, and attended the University of North Texas for graduate studies. He is appointed for a term to expire March 15, 2015.
Veronica "Ronnie" Hagerty of Houston is assistant vice president of community relations for the United Way of Greater Houston. She is a board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and ESCAPE Family Resource Center, a credentialed member of Certified Fund Raising Executives International, and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Houston. She is a past board member and past chair of the Texas Nonprofit Management Assistance Network and Texas Health and Human Services Commission Renewing Our Communities Account Advisory Committee, and a past board member of the Houston Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and Women's Resource of Greater Houston. Hagerty received a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College at Notre Dame, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston Graduate School of Business, and a Doctorate of Leadership and Change from Antioch University. She is appointed for a term to expire March 15, 2015.
Robert Marbut Jr. of San Antonio is a professor at Northwest Vista College, and past president and CEO of Haven for Hope. He is chair of the Northwest Vista College Academic Integrity Committee, and a past member and former mayor pro-tem of the San Antonio City Council. He is also founding president/CEO and a board member of the San Antonio Sports Foundation, a board member of Lutheran High School of San Antonio, and a past member of the CORO Fellows Program in Public Affairs. Marbut received bachelor's degrees from Claremont McKenna College, a master's degree in criminal justice from Claremont Graduate University, and a master's degree and Doctorate of Government from the University of Texas. He is reappointed for a term to expire March 15, 2015.
Art Serna Jr. of Kyle is director of training services for the Texas Charter Schools Association, and former lead specialist of contract policy and quality assurance operations at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. He is an alumnus of AmeriCorps, and a past volunteer with the Capital Area Food Bank, Literacy Austin and Austin'sChildren's Museum. Serna received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and a master's degree in management and technology from the University of Texas at San Anotnio. He is reappointed for a term to expire March 15, 2015.
Amber Wall of Pflugerville is a student at the University of Texas at Austin and currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in dance. She is a companion at the Summit at Westlake Hills Brookdale Senior Living Center, and a past member of the National Honor Society and National Dance Honor Society. Wall is appointed for a term to expire March 15, 2014.
Dan Woodward of Houston is CEO of Urgensee. He is a past board member of the Texas Council of the American Electronics Association, and a past volunteer with Dallas Meals on Wheels, the Cy-Fair Girls Athletic Association, Colleyville Sports Association, Colleyville Middle School, and Houston Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Woodward is appointed for a term to expire March 15, 2015.
