Golf notebook: VCJGA members sign letters of intent [Ventura County Star, Calif.]

Jan. 03--Seven members of the Ventura County Junior Golf Association recently signed letters of intent to play collegiate golf next fall.

Katherine Rice will attend Morehead State University; John Davis, Saint Martin's University in Washington; Jonathan Sanders, University of Washington; Brandon Shaw, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; Drew Thomas, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; Drew Miller, Santa Clara University; Patrick-Reilly McMahon, UCLA.

The seven are the latest success stories to come out of the VCGA ranks since its inception.

The 2012 VCJGA season continues on Jan. 21-22 with the Disney Store Winter Classic at Camarillo Springs. Registration for that event ends Jan. 13.

HOLE-IN-ONE REPORT

Dennis Burns celebrated Christmas Eve by holing out with a 5-iron on Lake Lindero's 170-yard ninth hole. The shot was witnessed by John Deneau.

Bob Billings of Victoria, Texas, aced the 145-yard seventh hole at River Ridge's Vineyard Course. It was witnessed by Jake Pinuelas.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

The Saticoy Senior Men's Golf Club is looking for new playing members, age 55 years or older.

The club plays tournaments every Thursday morning at Saticoy Regional Park Golf Course.

HUMANA TICKETS

One-day grounds are $25 and one-day clubhouse tickets are $50. The Humana Challenge features 144 PGA Tour professionals and 144 amateurs, including celebrities. The tournament continues to honor and celebrate the legacy of Bob Hope, and will award the inaugural Bob Hope Memorial Trophy to its winner.

LUNCH WITH WEST

The Southern California Golf Association, in conjunction with the Northern Trust Open, is hosting a lunch with NBA legend Jerry West at Brookside Golf Club on Jan. 19.
