Former N.C. Resident Extradited from Florida On Insurance Fraud Charges

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 26 -- The North Carolina Department of Insurance issued the following news release:

Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin today announced the arrest of Stacy Lasondo Jackson, 39, of 6917 Nichols Creek Drive, Jacksonville, Fla.; she was charged with ten counts each of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that between January and May 2013, while living in Fayetteville, N.C., Jackson obtained several thousand dollars from multiple insurance companies by filing fraudulent insurance claims for damage to her automobile and motorcycle. Investigators allege that, in many instances, the same vehicle damage was reported more than once or did not actually occur.

Jackson was arrested on similar charges in Florida on Dec. 20, 2013. With the assistance of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Financial Services Division of Insurance Fraud, she was extradited to Cumberland County, N.C., on Feb. 25, where she was arrested by N.C. Department of Insurance criminal investigators and placed under a $10,000 bond.

The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud. Since Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin took office in 2009, criminal investigators have made more than 800 arrests, resulting in more than 430 criminal convictions. These efforts have delivered more than $55 million in restitution and recoveries for victims.
