Arvid Wilder and the Travelers Return to the Stage

Nearly three decades after their last concert, classic country and rock band Arvid Wilder and the Travelers return to the stage Friday night at 7 p.m. at Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis.

Arvid Wilder and the Travelers were a fixture on the country music scene from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. After a long retirement from the public eye, Arvid is back for at least this revival concert of country and rock songs recorded between 1958 and 1968.

"He has a lot of old friends who want to see him and hear him again," said Wilder's wife, Cheri. "He's really excited."

He'll be joined by some longtime collaborators: Cal Taylor (an electronics professor at Centralia College) will be rhythm guitar, and Jimmy Ritchey, a producer in Nashville, is coming back home to Centralia to play lead guitar for the show. Eric Parton will play drums and Mike Rodgers will play bass.

Wilder, who has retired from his longtime job at Arvid's Abbey Carpet and Floor in Chehalis, will be joined on vocals during the concert by the current manager of the business, his daughter Erika Wilder.

Piano Students to Perform at Centralia Safeway

The Lewis County Music Teachers Association is sponsoring the 11th annual Piano Play-a-Thon Wednesday in the floral department of Centralia Safeway store.

The project allows students from 13 piano studios to perform publicly in an effort to provide a fundraising event. Performers will be seeking sponsors for their playing time.

Since 1998, the Dorothy Parker Memorial Grant, which is made available by the LCMTA, has provided piano lessons for children of Lewis County who would be unable to study piano without financial aid. All proceeds received from the Play-a-Thon sponsors will directly support this student grant program.

Piano students will be performing continuously from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on an instrument donated by Yenneys Music Co. The public is encouraged to attend. Donations will be welcomed that day or by contacting Sue Joachim, 736-8497.
