• Supervise when in or around the pool—especially children
• Teach children how to swim before allowing them in the water
• Keep floatation devices on the premises (tubes, noodles, etc.)
• Learn CPR and basic life saving techniques
• Prohibit swimmers from diving or jumping in the shallow end
• Keep pool area clean and clear of objects to avoid slips, trips, and falls
• Prohibit running in the pool area
• Install a fence and lock around the pool area to keep trespassers at bay
• Prohibit family or guests from swimming alone or while intoxicated
By following the above safety techniques, homeowners may be spared from filing a liability insurance claim on their home insurance.
