Data Life President Simon Jacob Sees Upside in Life Settlements Privacy Standards
New York, NY, November 13, 2009 - More than 400 attendees at this week’s 15th Annual Life Settlement Conference, hosted by the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA), heard Data Life president Simon Jacob describe the pitfalls of overcoming privacy and confidentiality issues in the life settlement portfolio sector. Participating on a panel of acknowledged experts in the field, Mr. Jacob was joined by Brian Casey of Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell, David Dorr of Life Exchange, Mark Venn of Clear Life, and Ryan Danz Esq. of Torrey Pines Services. Moderator was Kathleen Birrane, Esq. of Maple Life Financial,
The presenters recited laws and standards and gave examples of confidential information being accidentally leaked costing millions to investors as a result. Mr. Jacob held an alternate view of the matter: “Privacy and confidentiality standards are not a necessary evil. Being current and savvy about this subject offers a serious competitive edge and should be viewed as such.”
Mr. Jacobs stated. “Customizing all systems to incorporate privacy and confidentiality standards seamlessly will not only save money, but give an organization situation specific control over who can see and who can access what information.”
Referring to his company’s practice of giving access to information that they host versus the all too common bad practice of disseminating information out via email, encrypted or otherwise, Mr. Jacob urged greater transparency in this critical area and set procedures for all external communications.
