Computer System Design Services in Australia Industry Market Research Report Now Updated by IBISWorld

PR Web

Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) September 01, 2013

Assisting development and implementing new programming systems and business solutions has become big business since the use of computers in the workplace became common. The Computer System Design Services industry in Australia has benefited as businesses continue to outsource many non-essential operations. The industry slowed briefly during the peak of the global financial crisis as business confidence dropped dramatically. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Craig Shulman, “in the wake of the downturn, financial service providers, banks and insurers continue to be the industry's largest clients”. Over the past five years through 2013-14, industry revenue is estimated to grow at an annualised 3.9% to total $44.2 billion, including a 2.6% jump over the current year. Improvements in technology have driven revenue growth, particularly shifts to cloud systems.

As computers increasingly interact with general business and the community, so do computer consultants. As such, they have integrated their services with other consulting firms, such as strategic planning and business research companies. “This overlap with the Management Consultants industry is growing, as both industries endeavour to offer a broad-based, start-to-finish service,” says Shulman. The crossover is expected to bring larger players to the industry. Currently the industry has a low level of concentration, but these players are expected to increase their presence further through mergers and acquisitions. This precedent, set by major player IBM A/NZ Holdings Pty Limited in 2005-06, is expected to be a constant theme during the 10-year period through 2018-19.

Future growth should be driven by systems upgrades linked to advances in technology. In particular, postponed infrastructure investment, the implementation of the National Broadband Network and improvements in cloud computing will drive demand. There will still be high demand for services related to voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) or internet-based telephony, though cloud systems should succeed much of this demand in the business market. Businesses, households and governments will seek to capitalise on these advances and will look to computer consultants to provide the solutions. However, the Computer System Design Services industry's increasing tendency towards outsourcing means that services will likely be taken outside of Australia, leading to a reduction in domestic revenue generation.
