Columbian Mutual’s Thomas E. Rattmann Receives Forum 500 Distinguished Service Award

WASHINGTON, May 14 -- The American Council of Life Insurers issued the following news release:

Thomas E. Rattmann, chairman, president and CEO of Columbian Mutual Life Insurance Company, received the 2013 American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Forum 500's Distinguished Service Award. He received the award at the Forum 500 CEO Leadership Retreat in Arlington, Virginia.

The award is presented to an individual whose work has greatly contributed to the life insurance industry, especially to the small and medium-sized life insurance companies which the Forum 500 represents.

"There is no more deserving recipient of the Distinguished Service Award than Tom Rattmann. His commitment to our industry, and especially to the people we serve, is second to none. His leadership qualities and personal and professional integrity are admired by everyone who knows him. He is an outstanding representative of the Forum 500 and ACLI," said ACLI President & CEO Dirk Kempthorne.

Mr. Rattmann joined Columbian Mutual in June 1990. He was elected chief operating officer and joined the Board of Directors on August 27, 1996 and now serves as chairman, president and CEO.

He served as chairman of the Forum 500 in 2011. He is also past chairman of the Life Insurance Council of New York and LOMA'sLife Insurers Council. Mr. Rattmann is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts. Mr. Rattmann received Bachelors of Business Administration and Masters of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Rattmann has also served on the Board of numerous organizations in the Greater Binghamton, N.Y., area. He is a past Chair of the Broome County Arts Council, former officer and director of the Binghamton Philharmonic, and former director of the Broome County Chamber of Commerce. He was previously a member of the Advisory Council for Binghamton University'sSchool of Management.

Mr. Rattmann has two grown children, Jay and Rebecca. He and his wife, Karen, reside in Vestal, NY.
