Coats Statement on HHS Denial of Indiana Waiver Request

WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement regarding the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) denial of the state of Indiana's request for relief from a major provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA):

"The evidence continues to show that the president's health care law has failed to drive down costs, improve access or ease the burden on states and the economy. I am disappointed that the administration is unwilling to admit Obamacare's flaws and instead is forcing the law on Hoosiers. I will continue to support efforts to overturn this law so we can replace it with commonsense reforms that improve the quality of our health care without driving up costs."

As of today, 17 states have applied to the HHS for temporary adjustments or waivers to medical loss ratio rules under the new health care law. Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Nevada, Iowa and Georgia have been granted approval for waivers or phase-ins. The HHS response letter to Indiana Commissioner of Insurance Stephen W.
