Church Mutual Insurance Co. names Allen Leverett chairman [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

March 20--Allen L. Leverett, the chief financial officer of Wisconsin Energy Corp., has been named chairman of Church Mutual Insurance Co. the Merrill-based insurer said Wednesday.

Leverett succeeds Gerald Whitburn, who concluded a 17-year career with Church Mutual at its annual meeting Wednesday.

Church Mutual insures houses of worship and religious organizations.

"Jerry has been the guiding force in taking Church Mutual to the next level," said Mike Ravn, president and chief executive of Church Mutual, in a statement.

Whitburn joined Church Mutual in 1996. In 2001 he became president and CEO, and was named chairman in 2005. He retired as president and CEO in 2009.

Whitburn currently serves on the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, Northcentral Technical College Foundation and Wisconsin Natural Resources Board.

Leverett, who is CFO and executive vice president of Wisconsin Energy Corp. and We Energies, is a graduate of Vanderbilt University. He has Leverett has a master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and master of business administration degree from Auburn University.

Before moving to Wisconsin in 2003, Leverett served as executive vice president and CFO for Georgia Power Co. in Atlanta.

He also serves as a director of American Transmission Co. and Discovery World Museum in Milwaukee.
