Candidates line up for school board seats in Washington and east Ramsey counties: More than a dozen file in 3 districts [Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn.]
Aug. 20--More than a dozen candidates have filed to run for school board seats in Washington and eastern Ramsey counties.
Here are the races and brief descriptions of the candidates:
Mahtomedi: Four candidates are vying for three spots on the Mahtomedi school board.
Two incumbents -- Cathy Dalton and Kevin Donovan -- are running for re-election. Dalton, 46, lives in Mahtomedi and is a composer. Donovan, 51, of Grant is store director at Festival Foods.
They are being challenged by Mahtomedi residents Herb Gibson, 50, general manager of Midwest Ducts, and Robert Donohoe, 45, a reinsurance broker and managing director at Aon Benfield.
Incumbent John Belisle is not running for re-election.
North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale: Nine people will compete for three seats on the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale school board.
Incumbents Scott Duddeck and Mark Wheeler are running for re-election. Duddeck, 46, is a North St. Paul resident and the city's fire chief/community services manager. Wheeler, 57, lives in Oakdale and is an IT architectural consultant for UnitedHealth Group.
They face Rich Bennett, 54, of Maplewood, a retired purchasing agent; Amy Coborn, 41, of North St. Paul, a stay-at-home mother; Marc Cove, 40, senior vice president and co-founder of Platinum Bank in Oakdale and a former school board member; Arnoldo "Arnie" Curiel, 38, of Oakdale, an assistant professor and community liaison for the College of St. Scholastica's
graduate teacher licensure program; Robert Martin, 45, of Maplewood, head of startup company Anywhere Chair LLC; Chuck Myers, 47, of Maplewood, who is unemployed but worked in accounting and higher education; and Michelle Yener, 37, of Maplewood, who works in quality assurance in higher education.
Incumbent Cathy Miller is not running for re-election.
Stillwater: All four incumbents on the Stillwater school board have filed for re-election, and one challenger has joined the race.
The incumbents are Natalie Fedie, 42, of Lake Elmo, a senior implementation manager for GovDelivery in St. Paul; Natasha Fleischman, 42, of Lake Elmo, a program manager for Take Heart Minnesota; George Hoeppner, 61, of Oak Park Heights, a retired Stillwater Area High School teacher; and Scott Papke of Stillwater, district manager for private food-services company Taher.
Lake Elmo resident Tom Lehmann, a 49-year-old attorney, is the challenger.
