CIGNA Disability Nurse Case Manager Earns Dorland Health People Awards Honor

  • Cathy Murdoch earns award honoring health care professionals who make a difference
  • Three other CIGNA employees were named finalists in their category

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CIGNA (NYSE:CI) disability nurse case manager Cathy Murdoch was recently recognized in the Dorland Health People Awards, which honors health care professionals who are making a difference by helping individuals navigate the complicated health care landscape.

Murdoch joined CIGNA last year and, like many of the company’s nurses, she came directly from a career caring for patients at their bedsides. CIGNA employs nearly 2,000 nurse case managers, including disability case managers who:

  • Work with customers regularly over the phone
  • Interact with customers’ doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to help coordinate care and services
  • Lead efforts with teams within CIGNA, including vocational rehabilitation counselors and professionals in claims and billing, to help determine how people can get the most from their disability benefits and return to work when it is safe to do so.
  • Communicate with employers to determine if special work accommodations can be made so employees can return to work and employers can retain valued employees.

“Cathy brings clinical skill, empathy, energy and integrity to her work with our customers every day. She helps the people she serves focus on recovery and overall health and wellness, with the goal of returning to work,” said Beth Chiappetta, vice president, expert resources for CIGNA.

Three other CIGNA employees were named finalists in the categories of Behavioral Therapist, Clinical Nurse – Leadership, and Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. The complete list of winners and finalists can be found online at the Dorland Health web site.

Dorland Health People Awards entries were judged by a panel of experts from the clinical and business sectors of health care. Also serving as judges were the staff of Case in Point magazine and Case in Point Weekly. Entries were evaluated based on the proven track record and success of their programs.

Dorland Health publishes Case In Point, the official magazine of the Case Management Society of America, the Case Management Resource Guide, Case In Point Weekly, industry webinars, award programs, special reports, and offers continuing education certifications.

CIGNA also earned the top honor at Dorland Health’s First Annual Case in Point Platinum Awards in April for the Disability Case Management Program category.
