Boston Herald Margery Eagan column

Margery Eagan, Boston Herald

</table>

March 20--Scott Brown is always running against women, older women.

What's up with that?

He beat one blue-eyed blonde, Martha Coakley, when he ran as a humble, wide-eyed, grateful candidate just to be in the mix as the hunk-a-licious 41st vote against Obamacare.

He lost to a second blue-eyed blonde, Elizabeth Warren, after his defeat of the first went to his head. He got testy and prickly and called "Professor Warren" everything but paleface as he ridiculed her shaky Cherokee resume claims.

Enough already, voters declared.

Now Brown could face Jeanne Shaheen, a brown-eyed brunette who's pleasant, pragmatic and popular in a pleasant, pragmatic state -- but one that's fed up with the health care mess she supported. Could Obamacare catapult Brown to victory again?

My advice to Brown: First, find every horror story from every upstanding Granite Stater who lost his insurance, his doctor, or his easy access to a nearby hospital because of Obamacare -- and now must drive 100 miles on back roads in blizzards just to get a blood test.

Second, smother Shaheen with gentlemanly respect and kindness. Nobody wants to see the varsity king get snippy with a granny. "Granny" is what my colleague Howie Carr called Brown's other grandma opponent, Warren. But grannies vote, big time.

My advice to Shaheen: First, get under Brown's thin skin. "From what I've seen Brown just can't resist the bait," says a crusty New Hampshire watcher. "He goes after it like a Winnipesaukee trout after the last worm of the season."

Second, wrap Fox News, the "birther" network, around his neck. That's where Brown has collected a fat paycheck as a commentator along with right-wing nutties Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and the ship-back-11-million-illegals crew.

Fox is also the butt of endless ridicule on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show," the bible of those who are hip and cool, and see nothing remotely cool about an angry, doughy, white-guy network that even told kids last Christmas that Santa is white, too.

Shaheen could ask, "Will you promise today that you will not use the great state of New Hampshire as just another vehicle back to Fox News?"

That's the polite way to put it. Her real message: Brown's a sock puppet of crazy-like-a-Fox CEO Roger Ailes, portrayed in a new biography as so nasty and paranoid that he wanted bombproof glass in his office to protect him from "homosexual activists."

Oh my, oh my, what a race this could be.

My plea to Brown: Run, Scott, run. Please.
