Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Selects Edifecs for Strategic ICD-10 Work

PR Web

Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) November 29, 2011

Today, Edifecs, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare software solutions specializing in regulatory compliance solutions for health plans and healthcare organizations, announced that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) has chosen the company as one of its strategic technology solutions for ICD-10.

The Edifecs ICD-10 solution helps health plans achieve compliance by understanding and mitigating risks at each stage of the ICD-10 transition. This is accomplished by enabling health plans to leverage and analyze their own historic data in order to prioritize remediation and testing efforts.

“We find significant value in having an integrated suite of products that work together to deliver end-to-end support for our ICD-10 project life cycle,” said Ian Gordon, Chief Operations Officer of BCBSNC. “We understand the strategic importance of implementing ICD-10 the right way, and we chose Edifecs based on our history of working together successfully in other projects.”

The migration from the ICD-9 to ICD-10 code sets will likely be an extensive conversion project for the health ecosystem, affecting many IT systems and healthcare policies. ICD-10 adds tens of thousands of increasingly detailed codes, which provide meaningful information about health conditions for analysis and reporting. They will also affect nearly every aspect of a healthcare organization’s business— claim adjudication, disease management and payment processing, to name a few. The deadline for implementing ICD-10 is October 1, 2013.

“Among the community of Blue plans, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has a reputation for delivering excellent customer service and quality clinical care, and Edifecs is honored that BCBSNC has selected us as part of its strategic ICD-10 solution set,” said Sunny Singh, CEO of Edifecs. “We are proud of our long-standing relationship with BCBSNC to help solve their complex business challenges and look forward to continuing this close relationship through the transition to ICD-10.”

In addition to BCBSNC, several other healthcare organizations have signed with Edifecs for ICD-10 solutions, including other Blue plans, state Medicaid agencies, and large commercial payers.
